NEPAFE draws on a membership of scientists, researchers, and policy experts with deep experience in agriculture, forestry, natural resource management, and environmental sciences. We produce and promote high-quality research — from peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters to policy papers and technical reports — to advance knowledge and inform practice in both Australia and Nepal.
We actively engage with key policy discussions on food security, climate resilience, sustainable land management, and biodiversity conservation. Our team has contributed research published in leading international journals, and we maintain a growing library of publications available freely to the public through our website.
We also facilitate access to knowledge for diaspora professionals and students by maintaining a national professional database, enabling collaboration, and connecting members with emerging research opportunities across institutions, government bodies, and international organisations.

One of NEPAFE's core strengths is its people. We facilitate meaningful professional connections among Nepalese-origin academics, practitioners, and students across Australia - from Canberra to Sydney, Hobart to Melbourne - creating a national network that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Through our regular webinar series, workshops, and professional development events, experienced members share insights on career pathways, industry trends, and practical skills with early-career professionals and students. Our webinars have featured leading voices from academia, government, and industry, covering topics ranging from career navigation in Australia to emerging research in sustainable agriculture.
We are committed to reducing professional isolation, particularly for newly arrived migrants and students. NEPAFE provides a trusted community where members can find guidance, mentors, and lasting professional relationships that span both countries.
Skill Transfer and Collaboration
Bridging Australian expertise with Nepalese communities, and vice versa.
NEPAFE acts as a two-way bridge. We facilitate the transfer of technical knowledge, professional skills, and best practices between Australia and Nepal, working with universities, research institutions, non-government organisations, and industry partners in both countries.
Through collaborative projects and grants, we deliver hands-on programs designed to upskill participants in areas such as sustainable farming, conservation practices, and environmental management. Our "City to Farm" program in Bilpin, NSW brought together Nepalese, Indian, Sri Lankan, and Pakistani community members for a full-day immersive learning experience at a working orchard — exploring organic farming, carbon sequestration, and sustainable food systems. Programs like these translate technical expertise into lived, practical experience.
We also collaborate actively with the Institute for Study and Development Worldwide (IFSD), BirdLife Australia, Ausgrid, TransGrid, Nepali Pathsala Group, Local Councils, Asians for Climate Solutions, and other partners to deliver funded projects with real community impact. Our ability to attract and leverage grant funding reflects the credibility and depth of our network.
Community Events and Programs
Taking action in the places we live, for the environment we all share.
NEPAFE believes that environmental stewardship begins in our own communities. We design and deliver events that are inclusive, practical, and purpose-driven — bringing together professionals, families, students, and youth from diverse cultural backgrounds to take meaningful action for the environment.
Our programs have included guided birdwatching and ecological awareness sessions at Jerrabomberra Wetlands and Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve for young people; a "Cycling for Climate Action Awareness" community ride along Hobart's Intercity Cycleway; cultural exchange events celebrating Australia Day with Indigenous and multicultural communities; and volunteer conservation days supporting native habitat restoration. Each event is designed not only to educate but to build belonging and inspire long-term engagement with nature.
We work closely with local community groups, Nepalese societies in each city, schools, and conservation organisations to ensure our programs reach people where they are. From Canberra to Tasmania and beyond, NEPAFE is active across Australia — and growing.
